Can News

Sunday, March 11th, 2007

People tell us all the time that they won’t drink our beers out of cans because cans make the beer taste different. We think that’s crap. We would not have spent a couple years building a brewery and making great beer if the can changed the taste. Breweries that can their beer tell people all the time that the can does not change the taste, but that’s no suprise, what would one expect them to say?
So, we did a little taste test during our last tour. The results showed that people had no preference for beer from a bottle, a can or fresh out of the tap. To quote from the study:
Study Purpose
The purpose of this research is to test consumer preference for Surly branded beer in different delivery forms – cans, bottles, or tap. Surly tested its Furious and Bender branded beer.

Summary of Findings
In our opinion, these study results support the claim that consumers have no preference for any particular form of beer. There was no significant difference for one form over the other.

So, if folks won’t drink the beer because they think the can changes the taste, you can tell them they are wrong.

A Surly Chat

Saturday, March 3rd, 2007

I spent some time Friday night with a couple of local beer drinkers looking to teach the world about good beer. We drank a few Benders and a few Furious. Our conversation ranged from my son Max’s ability to identify tap handles to the future of the brewing industry. The thing that made this conversation different is that they recorded it and put it on their web-site, What Ale’s Thee. Check out our conversation and send Alvey and Philip your thoughts. They want to hear from Minnesota beer drinkers!

GET SURLY @ MSP Airport – IKE’s

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Pissed that you missed your plane?
Angry that you got bumped and all they gave you was a $25 food voucher?
Frustrated that they have somehow misplaced your luggage?
Somewhat annoyed that no one told you your flight got canceled, ever though they canceled it 8 hours ago?
Bored at the airport?
Somewhat miffed that the line you got in for security has the folks that have never been to the airport before?
Unhappy that you sat on the tarmac for 3 hours before they canceled your flight?
And my favorite, did you have to wait to get off the plane because there was no open gate? Guess the pilots forgot to tell them you were coming.

Don’t get angry, GET SURLY!

Ike’s @ the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport now has Bender on tap. Stop by and grab a pint. Hell, grab two. You know you’re gonna get stuck in between the 2 chattiest people on earth that have become BFF on your flight. At least you will be well prepared to tune them out with some Surly.
